Information for Veterinary Hospitals

Join us to help save pets lives!

The Pet Good Samaritan Fund was started by a veterinary practice owner to help bridge the gap between immediate need and financial constraints.

Our Mission

Our mission is to encourage veterinarians to provide a Spectrum of Care and minimize the risk for reimbursement. By offering pet parents affordable treatment options, we will save more lives and guarantee repayment to veterinary providers. This program is an excellent way to reinforce responsible pet parenting by providing for the immediate need and future care.

When Gold Standard of Care is not feasible for a pet parent, the Spectrum of Care Approach initiative is utilized. The veterinarian oath supports the moral code to put patients above profits. This is a partnership approach to abolish economic euthanasia in treatable cases. When everybody participates in a team based approach we will make miracles happen.

How the PGSF works.

  1. The pet is in an appointment with a veterinarian (or in the past 5 days). A presumptive diagnosis of a treatable condition with a good return to a normal quality of life is expected.
  2. The veterinarian provides 3 options, in writing, for diagnostics and treatment plans, with associated costs. Submit plans to the PGSF via. email to [email protected].
  3. The pet parent is responsible for the initial exam.
  4. The pet parent will pay for initial diagnostics to confirm suspected diagnosis.
  5. The pet parent expresses they can not pay for any of the 3 submitted treatment options (in part or in full).
  6. The pet parent will start a Waggle Campaign while in the veterinary clinic before applying for PGSF assistance.
  7. The pet parent will apply for Care Credit or Scratch Pay (if veterinary clinic participates).
    • Provide screenshot of the application results to a staff member at the clinic.
      • If Care Credit or Scratch Pay is accepted, the veterinary clinic and Pet Parent move forward together.
      • The pet parent will email a screenshot of the application results to PGSF.
  8. For the PGSF to guarantee reimbursement to the veterinary provider, a cap for certain conditions may exist, with a limit of $2,000 per case.
  9. The goal is to utilize compassionate communication and multiple support avenues to help pet parents in these situations. It takes patience and commitment to a common goal while utilizing existing pet care partners.

Future Steps

  1. Pet parent will start a pet saving plan with Vet Billing to prepare for future emergencies.
  2. The pet parent will fill out an application for the PGSF assistance (found on this site under “Apply for Assistance”).
  3. If PGSF assists monetarily, all participants will contribute and work together.
    • Veterinary Clinic – examples being; provide a blanket discount to the invoice, provide a minimum database for suspected differential diagnosis focused on treatable conditions, assist with fundraising, etc.
    • Pet Parent – ask friends and family to contribute directly to the invoice at the veterinary clinic (utilize social media to share your pet’s story).
    • Pet Parent – is open to future support and communication with a PGSF pet advocate.
    • PGSF Advocate – is available for support and communication with the pet parent and the veterinary clinics.
  4. PGSF approved assistance will transfer directly to the veterinary clinic. There may a delay of several months as the pet parent completes the previously listed steps to generate the monetary support for their pet.
  5. After full reimbursement, PGSF will consider helping again.
